I like to make things. I always have.
I grew up the son of a very, very motivated crafter. I was no stranger to craft fairs and fabric stores. I can’t tell you how many evenings I happily went with my mom to SoFro Fabrics in Peabody, or followed her around the fabric department at Rich’s in Salem. As a kid, my vocabulary included words like gingham, punch tin, eyelet lace, embroidery…The list is long.
As a budding artist (my parents’ words), I was constantly in an environment where ‘things’ were being made. Whether I was drawing pictures or helping with my mother’s craft business, I felt best when my day’s work resulted in something I could hold up and say, “I made this.”
As an art director, I’m still the same way. There’s nothing more rewarding that making things…and making them look nice. So, craving a hobby in my adult life, nothing fit the bill better than crafts.
A few friends reignited my love for crafts about three years ago with some serious knitting and crochet lessons. And that was it. That was all I needed. I’m following in my mother’s footsteps.
I’m a crafter.
